Dr. Sebastian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth, Marine and Environmental Sciences (EMES) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is joint appointed in the Environment, Ecology and Energy Program (E3P). Her research on flood risk in urban areas relies on a multi-disciplinary approach, combining state-of-the-art methods from the fields of environmental statistics, terrestrial hydrology and hydraulic engineering, and urban planning. Her previous work has focused on problems ranging from compound events in coastal environments to the influence of urbanization and climate change on the evolution of flood hazard and risk to flood adaptation under non-stationary conditions. Most recently, her work delves into issues related to risk quantification, visualization, and communication. Dr. Sebastian holds BS and PhD degrees in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Rice University and is a former Netherlands-America Foundation (NAF)/Fulbright Flood Management Fellow (2014-2015). Antonia has also held positions as an Associate Research Scientist at the Center for Texas Beaches & Shores (CTBS) at Texas A&M University at Galveston (2018-2019), and as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Severe Storm Prediction, Education, and Evacuation from Disasters (SSPEED) at Rice University (2017-2018) and within the EU-funded Horizon2020 Project, BRIGAID, at TU Delft (2016-2017).
